The Cutest Job in the World? Heinz is Hiring "Picky" Babies to Taste-Test Baby Food

It's time for the genuine experts to take the stage, food critics!

Heinz has revealed that it is looking for the prettiest group of taste testers possible: babies between the ages of 6 and 15 months. Together, these young gourmets will create the new "Heinz Picky Panel" a program designed to address the issues of fussy eating and assist parents in selecting foods that their children would genuinely love.

Here is all the information you require on this exceptional opportunity:

The Heinz Picky Panel: What Is It?

A group of baby food reviewers known as the Heinz Picky Panel is entrusted with trying Heinz's extensive selection of infant food and offering their opinions. Feedback will be given through the universal language of newborns, which includes body language, facial expressions, cooing, and other cute indications of acceptance (or displeasure), of course, because these little tasters are still developing their words. Heinz's product development team will be informed of the panel's conclusions by parents and guardians serving as interpreters.

Why Is Heinz Doing This?

Heinz has been a leader in baby food for over 90 years and takes pride in creating products that are both nutritionally sound and delicious. The Picky Panel initiative is Heinz’s way of ensuring their products meet the high standards of their most discerning customers: babies themselves.

This effort also comes in response to new research highlighting the struggles parents face when dealing with picky eaters:

  • 65% of parents report their little ones are fussy eaters.

  • On average, babies turn up their noses at meals five times a week.

  • Nearly 40% of babies refuse food at least once daily, leading to increased parental stress.

  • 67% of parents admit their child’s picky eating habits significantly affect their stress levels.

Almudena Rein, Head of First Foods at Heinz, explains:

At Heinz, we understand that every baby has their own unique tastes and preferences, which is why we want the real experts – babies themselves – to have a say in our product development process."

What Does the Job Entail?

While Heinz’s official job description for the Picky Panel may not include nappy-clad executives with briefcases, it does sound like a dream role for any baby. Here’s a breakdown of the responsibilities and qualifications:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Sampling jars, pouches, and snacks from the Heinz Baby Food range.

  2. Offering instant feedback through facial expressions, gestures, or enthusiastic (or not-so-enthusiastic) cooing.

  3. Communicating food preferences to parents/guardians, who will document and report the results to Heinz.

Qualifications:

  • Age: 6-15 months old at the time of application.

  • Dietary Expertise: Must be a picky eater with well-developed opinions about what’s worth eating.

  • Communication Skills: Should excel in expressing likes and dislikes through facial expressions, gestures, and vocalizations.

  • Work Environment: Must be comfortable working from a high chair.

  • Parental Supervision: Testing sessions must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

Compensation:

While there won’t be any cash exchanged (these junior employees are a bit too young to have National Insurance numbers!), selected panelists will receive a six-month supply of Heinz baby food. That’s a package even the pickiest eaters can’t refuse!

Expert Insights on Picky Eating

Angharad Rudkin, a Clinical Psychologist collaborating with Heinz, emphasizes the importance of making weaning and food exploration a positive experience. “Parents can feel stressed about it as they try to make sure their baby gets all the right food into them, while babies are more focused on exploring, playing, and having fun!” Rudkin notes.

To reduce the stress of mealtime battles, Rudkin suggests viewing weaning as a learning process. "Finding out what your baby does and doesn’t like is an important part of this journey," she says. The Picky Panel initiative aligns with this perspective, aiming to educate and support parents while making baby food testing a fun, low-pressure experience.

At its core, the Heinz Picky Panel is about more than just taste-testing baby food. It’s an initiative that recognizes the challenges parents face with fussy eaters and aims to provide solutions that make mealtimes less stressful and more enjoyable. As Almudena Rein puts it, "If it’s loved by the pickiest eaters, it’s sure to be loved by all."

So, if your baby has strong opinions about what’s on the menu, this might just be their chance to shine! Whether they’re a food-loving gourmand or a steadfastly picky eater, Heinz wants to hear from them. After all, when it comes to baby food, It Has to Be Heinz.
